School Intervention Program (SIP)
This year, the School Intervention Program reached three locations – Poonamallee, Thanjavur, and Arni – transforming the learning journey of 174 students from Classes 9 – 12, including 65 blind and 109 with low vision. Our trainers advanced their expertise through intensive Training of Trainers in Chennai and Bangalore, mastering curriculum delivery, mobility instruction, programming fundamentals, and advanced Excel that strengthening lesson quality, project-based learning, and support for slow learners.
With over 750 hours of hands-on training, students gained skills in computer literacy, English communication, and independent mobility. Typing speeds soared from 5 WPM at 50% accuracy to 17 WPM at 75%, while English proficiency improved by 40%, boosting confidence in speaking and writing.
Students learned the value of mobility, practicing cane techniques and orientation skills, with graduating 12th graders receiving white canes for independent travel. Infrastructure upgrades included brand-new computer labs in Arni and Trichy, an upgraded Thanjavur lab, and laptops to ensure uninterrupted learning. Celebrations like White Cane Day, Louis Braille Day, Career Awareness Workshops, and SIP Day created moments of pride, peer bonding, and future readiness. Challenges, from hardware shortages to limited working days, were met with extra classes and laptop redistribution kept learning on track.
By year-end, 38 students stepped into higher education out of which 22 in EMET- affiliated colleges and 16 in others and with 29 receiving HTBF scholarships. A standout achievement was by Aanadh, a government school student who scored 486/600 in his board exams, typing at 27 WPM with 95% accuracy.
With measurable skill growth, academic transitions, and life-changing opportunities, the program this year not only met its goals—it inspired a vision to reach even more students in the years ahead.
